Letter: San Diego high schools (July 3, 2016)

San Diego High School is essentially a medium-security prison making odd sucking sounds as it drains millions from San Diego Unified School District’s budget.

One of the reasons for building the downtown central library was to offer a new high school to the neighborhood “youth.” The place is called e3 Civic High and cost more than $10 million.

Then there’s Lincoln High. That place cost more than $129 million to “refurbish” and is noted as the most expensive campus in the SDUSD system.

San Diego High’s students can migrate to e3 and to Lincoln. The existing buildings can be bulldozed or the place can be handed back to the park and leased to the World Beat Center and Centro Cultural de la Raza.
