Letter: SB-54 (April 12, 2018)

California’s sanctuary law SB-54 is the humane solution. Many cities and counties are rejecting it. The solution is simple. San Francisco, Stockton and Sacramento describe a 150 square mile triangle and that triangle should be considered an Exclusive Sanctuary Zone and a sanctuary for all.

Undocumented migrants should seek out that Sanctuary Zone and know that there, they can be safe.

State and federal funding for the homeless under PATH, SSH, CBHI and more should be concentrated within that Sanctuary Zone.

The zone can be protected by all California’s agencies.

Certainly, federal grants to California’s police departments should be re-purposed and dedicated to supporting housing and migrant services within that Sanctuary Zone.

“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free” can finally become true at least in California.

It’s time we came together and protected all of our citizens.
